A Night Of Storytelling & Recitations
Saturday 29th April 2006 in Lawlor’s Hotel (Pearse Room) at 8.30pm
Fact or Blarney? – Proving the Legacy left by Irish storytellers. For many centuries Irish storytellers (Seanachaí) have captivated listeners with tales of local happenings. These storytellers have inherited their knowledge and craft from generations of Seanachaí dating back to the pre-Christian Bards of the Druids. In the pre-television and radio days, the long Irish winter nights were spent gathering at the fireside of local households for entertainment. Singing, dancing, storytelling and recitations filled the evenings for rural people. The custom was called visiting (Ar Cuairt).
To-night we endeavour to re-enact such events in a cosy and friendly atmosphere in the presence of James Lenane (Fear an Tí)
Featuring:
- Jim Maher (Kilkenny)
- Pat Speight (Cork)
- Joe Hickey (Wexford)
- Bob Lambert (Wexford)
- Filey Cullen (Wexford)
- Sharon Hennessey (Cappoquin)
And a surprise guest could drop in!!
